Throughout the year, we celebrate the wide array of individuals, groups, and cultures at La Salle by calling to mind various holidays, observances, and commemorative days that provide our campus with an opportunity to learn and to become involved as they desire. Below please find information and links to learn more about the recognitions taking place across the globe and throughout the country during the month of March:

Tuesday, March 19: the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Saint Joseph, earthly father of Jesus and spouse of the Virgin Mary. Saint John Baptist de La Salle chose Saint Joseph as the Patron and Protector of the Brothers’ Institute. Devotion to Saint Joseph was considered by Saint La Salle as most appropriate for the Brothers in particular and for teachers in general because Saint Joseph was commissioned by God to take care of the Child Jesus, a child not his own yet he loved so much. Like Saint Joseph, Brothers and educators are called to care for the students entrusted to their care.

Ramadan from March 10–April 9

La Salle is committed to ensuring that our campus has an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment, as a result, today we are launching a Campus Climate Survey to students, faculty, staff, and administrators to develop a better understanding of the extent to which our campus climate supports diversity and equity. The survey usually takes less than 15 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary. We are grateful for your cooperation and willingness to provide information that will help us better understand La Salle’s climate. The survey is being administered by an independent organization, the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium (HEDS). They will exclude any personal information, such as your name, email address, student or employee identification number, and your IP address, from the data they send to our institution. The information you provide will be used to inform and improve support, policies, and practices at La Salle.

Students that complete the survey have the option to enter their name for a drawing to win SFA dollars. We will award $20 in SFA funds to two students every week the survey is active (3 weeks). A total of 6 students will be selected.

McLaughlin Social Justice Institute: The McLaughlin Social Justice Institute is a two-week intensive academic, community, and field experience program hosted at Christian Brothers University where students will learn how their own social identities impact their engagement with others. Blending classroom instruction, visits from leading experts in law and medicine, and trips throughout the Memphis community, students will learn about issues pertaining to social justice and inequity, particularly for people living in poverty and on the margins.

The Institute will be offered June 16–29, 2024, and will engage participants form across the United States and Latin America in an exciting, life-changing opportunity to immerse oneself in learning about some of the most critical issues of our day such as generational poverty and homelessness, food scarcity, challenges faced by immigrants, and inequity in education and healthcare. Earn three college credits in two exciting and impactful weeks!

If you are interested, please complete the application by April 15, 2024. A group of 2-4 students will be selected to attend with 80-100% of the cost covered.

International Association of La Salle Universities (IALU) Student Leadership Program: The International Association of La Salle Universities (IALU) Leadership and Global Understanding Summer Program is for student leaders to: 

1. enhance their global perspective in order to better understand the perceptions of a global society; 

2. tackle issues of integral ecology (socio-environmental issues) which are fundamental to the Lasallian network; 

3. to further develop Lasallian identity among students. In addition, we hope participants will build their leadership skills in a Lasallian context to then return to La Salle to ignite and sustain the Lasallian community into the future.

Participants will benefit from interacting with several instructors, speakers, and experiences designed to assist them into shaping their leadership skills.

The IALU Student Leadership and Global Understanding Program will be held at Lewis University (outside of Chicago, IL), July 7–20, 2024. If you are interested, please complete the application by April 15, 2024.
