Student receiving ashes

Ash Wednesday at La Salle

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Lent commemorates the 40 days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation by Satan. It is a period of preparation to celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection at Easter. In the Catholic tradition during Lent, Catholics seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture, serving by giving alms, and practicing self-control through fasting. Catholics are called to abstain from certain luxuries during Lent and have a true inner conversation of heart as they seek to follow Christ’s will more faithfully. Lent is practiced by many Christian groups, such as Roman Catholic, Eastern orthodox, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Anglicans, and Lutherans.

Join La Salle Ministry and Service for distribution of ashes as we celebrate the start of Lent. See schedule below.
