Easter

Easter is the most important festival in the Christian calendar. It marks Jesus's resurrection. After Jesus was crucified on the Friday his body was taken down from the cross and buried in a cave tomb. The tomb was guarded by Roman soldiers and an enormous stone was put over the entrance.

On Sunday Mary Magdalene and some of Jesus's disciples visited the tomb. They found the stone had been moved and that Jesus's body had gone.

Jesus appeared to Mary outside the tomb. Later he appeared to his disciples and for 40 days afterwards he was seen by many other people. His followers realized that God had raised Jesus from the dead. Christians call this the resurrection.

Passover

This year, Passover began at sundown on April 12 and ends on sundown on April 20. Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is one of the most sacred and widely observed holidays in the Jewish tradition. It always occurs during the Hebrew month of Nissan. Passover commemorates the story of the slavery of the Israelites in Egypt and their departure or ultimate exodus to freedom.
