Founding editor of Jacobin, the president of The Nation magazine, and author of the The Socialist Manifesto: The Case for Radical Politics in an Era of Extreme Inequality Bhaskar Sunkara will speak about his most recent book and the impacts of capitalism and is there an alternative. This event in the Union Building Music Room is sponsored by the School of Arts and Sciences.

Feast of Scubilion Rousseau, FSC 

Friday, Sept. 27

On this day, the global Lasallian network celebrates the feast of Blessed Brother Scubilion Rousseau, FSC. Born during the French revolution, he joined the Christian Brothers in 1822. In 1833, he left his native France to dedicate the remaining 34 years of his life serving the enslaved natives on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. He is remembered as the “catechist of the slaves.” He was beatified in Réunion by Saint Pope John Paul II on May 2, 1989.
